Call Mira (9682 3100) – Helpline for Ethnic Minority Women and Girls

By Editor's Desk, February 27, 2019, Categories: Featured, Top Story

Imagine this: you are in trouble in Hong Kong. As a mother/daughter, you have a crisis situation at home and need help. You want to call someone you can trust and in a language that you feel most comfortable; someone resourceful who will be able to provide help in Hong Kong.  Who will you call?

Call Mira – 9682 3100

Call Mira is the only helpline of its kind, operates three days a week in Hindi, Urdu and English. Initiated by The Zubin Foundation, a registered charity in Hong Kong, it aims to support ethnic minority women and girls in need.

Confidentially

Call Mira has been operating for 7 months. It understands most of the callers call them about sensitive issues. The staff and volunteers are all trained to handle the calls in confidence.

The helpline has received calls on issues ranging from employment, health, legal, counselling, housing, social welfare as well as tutorial services.

How it works

When a Caller calls, a trained call responder compassionately listens and helps the caller understand ways in which Call Mira can help. They also provide information to the caller about resources available in the community over the phone as well as help set up chaperones for them while visiting specialists such as lawyers, doctors, or social workers. Meetings with the specialists can be in English, Hindi and Urdu.

Some callers are in dire need of basic necessities like food, shelter, access to phones, clothes and baby/infant supplies.  An Emergency Fund has recently been set up to cover these costs at https://www.simplygiving.com/appeal/tzf_emergencyfund

Please help spread the word about the Call Mira Helpline number 9682 3100 operated between 10:00am to 4.00pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
