Youth 15 and under have a chance to watch T20 superstars free
Cricket Hong Kong today announced an early seasonal gift for local cricket fans with tickets for the upcoming T20 Blitz (6-11 February at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground) priced at just $20 for adults for all of the mid-week matches.
In a further move to grow the game and share the excitement of the T20 Blitz with the wider community, Cricket Hong Kong is also offering free admission for youth to seven of the total eleven matches (6-9 February).
“We are delighted to be able to extend this special discounted ticket offer to the entire community to watch dozens of the world’s top cricketers competing alongside Hong Kong’s top players at the T20 Blitz,” said Jonathan Cummings, Director of Cricket Hong Kong.
“With $20 tickets and free admission for youth, we expect that the crowds will be significant for our mid-week games and will provide a suitable reception for the dozens of world-class international players appearing.
The ticket price also offers those new to the game an easy and inexpensive opportunity to get their first experience of the game,” added Cummings.
Tickets for the weekend rounds (10-11 February), including the final and third/fourth place play-off on Sunday, will be priced at $350 for adults and $100 for youth 15 and under.
In a first for the event, a limited number of fans can also attend the T20 Blitz Launch Party, sponsored by Dining Concepts, at Spiga Terrace on Friday, 5 February. Only 50 tickets will be sold for this exclusive opportunity to rub shoulders with the international and local stars hitting out at the Blitz.
The Cricket Hong Kong Boundary Club will once again be the place to enjoy the action in true style with all-inclusive packages featuring buffet lunch and food and beverage packages for $1,300 on both Saturday and Sunday.
A new premium terrace seating option will allow people to book tickets for patio table seating with some of the best sight lines of all of the action at just $200 from Tuesday to Friday and $500 for matches on Saturday or Sunday.
The T20 Blitz is Hong Kong’s newest and most innovative sporting format with five locally owned franchises battling for a $200,000 grand prize in early February.
In keeping with its name, the Blitz has taken the international cricket world by storm and once again re-affirmed the depth of support for the game locally and the innovative and forward-thinking nature of Cricket Hong Kong.
The five local franchises are once again lining up to support the event as well with the teams already announcing some of the biggest names in the international game, including one of the world’s top One Day.
International bowlers, an ICC World Twenty20 winning captain and the return of a man who hit a thrilling 31-ball century in the 2017 edition.
Among the superstars already confirmed is Australia’s Chris Lynn, playing for Hung Hom JD Jaguars. Lynn recently became the first player to sign a million dollar, five-year contract with the Australian Big Bash League (BBL) and was also selected as the top player overall in the recent Pakistan Super League draft.
His dominance in the Big Bash League had the “Lynnsanity” hashtag trending worldwide with his 124-metre six off Shaun Tait arguably the highlight of the tournament. Lynn also shares the record for the highest opening partnership in IPL history with 93 off of 41 balls in a stand of 164 for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Jaguars are also roaring about the return of last year’s crowd favourite Darren Sammy. The ever-smiling St Lucian has played in all of the major Twenty20 Leagues around the world and captained West Indies to glory at the ICC World Twenty20 in 2016.
The Kowloon Cantons have returned last year’s sensation Dwayne Smith who set the opening day of the 2017 Blitz alight with a century off of 31 balls, including 29 runs from the first over. Smith is set to once again form a lethal opening combination with Hong Kong’s own big-hitting star Babar Hayat.
Hong Kong Island United have made their early intentions clear by signing the world’s best day one-day cricket fast bowler in Hasan Ali, who was the leading wicket-taker in the 2017 Champions Trophy.
City Kaitak’s first selection was also an impressive one, with Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir capable of destruction with both bat and ball as he showed in the Caribbean Premier League where he took record figures of 5-3 for Guyana.
Galaxy Gladiators Lantau meanwhile has uncovered an exciting young talent in Jofra Archer, playing with Sussex in England. Archer has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past year as the Barbados-born all-rounder’s fast bowling pace has earned him a spot in the Bangladesh Premier League and Big Bash League this season.
From up and coming sensations to established superstars, The Gladiators are well-equipped to enter the fray with the addition of Cameron Delport, a modern-day T20 globetrotter with credentials in the Big Bash League, Natwest Blast, T10 and the BPL. The hard-hitting South African will certainly add some intimidation to the Gladiator’s opening order.
