Coming to Hong Kong to perform at the biggest event of the season, singing sisters Sonali and Deepali are ready to rock A-DesiFlava Event’s Navratri Utsav 2019!

Known for their unique talent of multilingual singing, the sisters have performed in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Sindhi, Punjabi, Bengali and more! The duo shot to fame with their song ‘Aplam Chaplam’. They have now set out to achieve their dream of performing in the global cities of the world.

“Learning new things has always excited us,” says Sonali. “It was this love for learning that made us multilingual. Its an amazing feeling to see the excitement of the audience when we sing in their mother tongue.”

They start their day with a regimented riyaaz session. Later in the day they practice their songs in sync. “We learned singing from our father,” says Deepali. “He was a professional singer. It was with my mother’s immense support that he and both of us have been able to make a career in singing.”

From weddings, corporate shows, devotional songs, patriotic to cultural performances (like Navratri and more), the talented sisters have done it all.  Their favourite place to perform for Navratri is Ahmedabad. “There is an electrifying energy in the Ahmedabad crowd during the Navratri nights,” they say.

After over 2500 live shows, the sisters are performing in Hong Kong for the first time. “We are very excited about coming to Hong Kong and performing for our people there,” says Deepali. “It will be interesting to witness how Indians abroad are celebrating Navratri.”

Sonali quips, “As we are coming to Hong Kong for the first time, that’s already very exciting. We are looking forward to the high energies, colourful costumes, and happy faces of our people there.”

She shares that her favourite garba song is ‘Indhan winva’. “And mine is Chaalo bela bambu bechla,” her sister adds. The lovely ladies have a brilliant connect with their audience. Being trained kathak dancers, their performance has the perfect mix of song and dance!

They promise that the garba classics like ‘Tara Vina Shyaam’ and ‘Hey Ranglo’ will get the audience grooving. They will also be singing Navratri’s new favourites ‘Chogada’ and Kamariya’.

My move to Hong Kong, though sudden, was a smooth one. Essentially a SoBo girl, my desi ties are wrapped quite tightly. But the warm vibe of Hong Kong, it's buzzing nights, the multi-cultural influences and of course, so many Indian friends made it easy to call this home. I’ve been writing all my life – on fashion, lifestyle, entertainment, art and just about everything that infuses colour into my life. Joining the A-Desiflava team is yet another excuse to put together all these passions for sharing with my fellow Hong Kongers!
