The Art of being ATAL!

“मौत खड़ी थी सर पर इसी इंतजार में थी
ना झूकेगा ध्वज मेरा 15 अगस्त के मौके पर
तू ठहर इंतजार कर लहराने दे बुलंद इसे
मैं एक दिन और लड़ूंगा मौत तेरे से
मंजूर नही है कभी मुझे
झुके तिंरगा स्वतंत्रता के मौके पे “

! कोटि कोटि नमन !

भारत रत्न अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी जी

Atal Bihari Vajpayee who thrice served as the Prime Minister of India has passed away on August 16 at 5.05pm at the age of 93. He was admitted to the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here in June with kidney tract infection and chest congestion and was on life support system. He is survived by his adopted daughter and granddaughter.

4 lasting legacies of our former Prime Minister of India :

Pokhran -II

In May 1998, he took the decision to go ahead with nuclear tests knowing fully well that the western world led by the US wold be outraged. His conviction that the outrage would be short-lived and the bargaining strength gained more permanent has arguably been proved right.

Roads

Bijli (Electricity), Sadak (Roads), Pani (Water) has been a slogan to denote fundamental infrastructural and developmental goals, but to Vajpayee must go the credit for really taking road construction in India to a new level. The golden quadrilateral may be the more talked about the programme, but his village road schemes perhaps have had the more far-reaching impact on the country.

Lahore, Kargil, Agra Bus Trip

The famous bus trip to Lahore in February 1999 signaled his willingness to take a new approach to Indo-Pak relations. The handling of the Kargil war months later showed he could turn the threat into an opportunity to isolate Pakistan and win world opinion in favor of India. The 2001 Agra summit was to tell the world India would give peace a chance from a position of strength.

Privatisation

In a polity that had tiptoed around even disinvestment of PSA shares, Vajapayee showed he had the boldness and the courage of conviction to undertake outright privatization when he okayed ‘strategic sales’. Modern Foods, Balco, Hindustan Zinc, Indian Petrochemicals and VSNL were among 30 PSUs handed over to private management in five years – a record no government before or since has matched.

The list doesn’t end here :
