How Do Seasons Affect Colours And Patterns?

How do you feel when you attend a party and people tell you “Wo.OW” you look awesome” (yeah exactly the same words, accentuating each vowel!) That is “top-of-the-world” feeling. And in most of the cases, it is a choice of your dress that does that extra magic! Split the hairs and you will know that the real magic lies in choosing the right type of colours according to the season. But we did more…splitting several layers of hair- colours, patterns, time of the day and of course- the season! Here’s the platter for you to savour:

Winters

The Blue hue rules the winters. Why? Simply because Blue is in the sky, especially in winters. Wearing Blue colours will give you a soothing semblance and nature-happy look but save yourself from blue-overdose that looks oh-so-boring! Be Girlish and go for contrasts that pop out effortlessly.
During the Day: Red and Yellow patterns look great against an azure background. When opting for red, avoid being “Loud” and prefer eye-friendly resolution.

In the Night: You need something charming that can dazzle the eyes! Here you can afford to go a bit bolder, so why not? Go for shimmering gold or silver patterns against a vivid blue background. Apart from flora, you can also go for the curvaceous and arabesque motifs. Idea? To offer the visual blend of bold colours and soothing patterns- balance matters!

Flora would look great and Fauna too- provided you don’t opt for an elephant-behind-bamboos design. Red rose with a butterfly or 2 hovering above it would look nice. You can also go for other variations of flowers and some little birds can happily replace butterflies. But hey, did you get the bottom-line? Go for patterns that depict the natural delights of winter!

Summer

The colour of summer is White! The sky is clear with no too many splashes of blue. It seems vast too- something that is best represented by white colour. Besides, summers are bright. But then you need to go for smooth and subtle shades. Be harmonious with nature rather than opting for sharp contrast. If you must wear contrasts go for pyramid approach- Start from sky-blue on the neck and then gradually darken the shade and embrace navy blue when you finally reach the midriff!

During the Day: Soft and pastel colours look the best and soft yellow is an all-time hit. Use it as a background and accentuate with warm pink patterns. Nothing could look more girlish this season! If feeling experimental, go for grey, soft orange or light green. Off-white background and soft-pink patterns are a boon for those who can never solve colour-puzzle.

In the night: Still, stick to the pastel colours for a background but change the patterns. Rose gold and silver are your best friends and they are very much in the vogue. They stand us but don’t strain the eyes that are a good thing. You can also opt for a good sprinkle of shimmering gold if you want a distinct look but then be ready to trade some amount of your soothing look! The choice is yours!

Summer patterns should be large but soothing. Avoid sharp edges..that pinches the eyes! Curves, circles and splashes look great. You can go for the soothing geometrical patterns or some soulful designs.

Spring

We don’t need to tell you the colour for this season. After all, everybody knows it! As for the apparels, choose the ones that harmonize with nature are character-charming, witty and fascinating! Yellow is the trademark colour but beauty lies in how do you use it for an appealing semblance.

During the Day: It is a no-brainer that red and yellow are the best buddies. Both are charming and vivacious. But yellow is a bit reserved in its appeal and prefers to be in the background…just a few notches behind the red when it comes to mischief. In the context of spring- if yellow represents pleasure then red is purely exhilarating! If you would rather look harmonious then go for Green against yellow.

In the night: You can go for silver patterns set against yellow and believe us the pattern didn’t come to our mind off the blues! The silver reminds of drizzle and yellow represents spring. What could be a better combination!

As for the patterns go with the mood of the season…drops, raining, drizzle or splash! Anything that repeatedly breaks, accentuates or dots the monotony of colour looks great!

Autumn

Autumn! Close your eyes and think aloud and we can hear your voice- ORANGE! Yeah, that is the colour for the season. Boldness would need our apologies and we are with the “old-world-colours” that can take your reverse journey down the memory lane. Muted colour look fine if selected properly. Keep them near orange but don’t go for very rich “in-your-eye” shades. As for a background, you have a bunch of natural shades to choose from.

During the Day: You can go for seasoned brown with orange patterns. It looks so nostalgic, the eyes can’t resist admiring! The brown- especially the lighter shades- represents a seasoned tree trunk while the orange stands for a signature colour of autumn. Memories conjure up effortlessly and one can “visually hear” the rustling of leaves against the ground!

In The Night: For the night you can go for pinks and golden undertones set against orange- not exactly very bright but a few notches up the muted shade. The idea is to allow the eloquent colours to peep out charmingly behind the autumn backdrop- as if waiting for spring! But avoid sharp contrast. Small and crisp floral patterns look just fine and monotony doesn’t hurt here but a balanced medley of same colour family or patterns would look great.

As for the patterns you can go for wrinkled, crumbled background with sharp and clear motifs. Simplicity is the key to follow. Any pattern that looks nostalgic would do!
