Ma – My Superhero

By Editor's Desk, May 11, 2019, Categories: Edutainment, Featured, In the Mood, Kids, Top Story

Wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day! It is rare that we are at loss of words, but today we feel a vast vocabulary or wide wordcount will fall short in expressing our emotions for the one word – ‘ma’.

So, we got our fellow-desis to word it in their unique heartfelt way and tell us how their mums remain their superheroes! Living away from our motherlands and most of us, away from our mothers, this one is going to tug at the heart and dampen the eyes…

Anu Mathrawala for her mother Chandani Bhatia

Mums superpower is her ability to suddenly make everything available no matter it be dhaniya and kadi patta plants that she found on her first visit to Hong Kong or ras malai when I was craving it right before my induction to labor! I’ll send her lilies – her favorite flowers.

Vibha Mishra for her mother Vimla Tripathi

My mother is who made me what I am today. She is multitasker. She is also my sounding board. Today, I will call to wish her.

Dr. Sonal Hattangdi-Haridas for her mother Mrs. Sudha Hattangdi

Mum’s resilience and ‘can do ‘ attitude to continually update her knowledge led me to start and complete my  Masters in Nutritional Medicine as a working professional and mom, while my mum started to add to her artistic repertoire by learning and creating Chinese watercolour paintings after moving to Hong Kong two years ago.

Mom loves to sit and chat with the all her family and friends of all ages while eating healthy tasty saraswat food, so that’s what we will do today.

Arati Sethy for her mother Sumitra Dalei

My mother’s superpower is cooking. She can make anything taste good even if she’s making it for the first time.

She’s also very fond of traveling and seeing new places. Today I’ll make her favorite dishes. I also want to take her for a holiday to someplace she has not yet visited.

Sagar Gupta for his mother Meenakshi Gupta

My mother’s superpower is the ability to always stay calm and finding solutions no matter how bad the situation gets. To make the day special for her, I am going to make her breakfast in bed.

Sundus Qureshi for her mother Shari Dureshahwar Lughmani

My mum has the power to heal. She can heal the when I’m sick and blow her magic dust on whatever is that hurt me. Today I’ll write her a card and make breakfast for her. I will also take her to the Peak and there we will have a nice dinner after which I will take her shopping – I’ll make sure everything is perfect today. I want this Mother’s Day to be the one day my mum will not forget in her life because I want her to be happy.

Eysha Gill for her mother Sharan Gill

Kind. Warm. Loving. Three words I would use to describe my mother. But even these few words can do nothing to fully describe the plethora of love, joy, and devotion that is my mum. She has supported me since day one; laughed with me on my best days and comforted me during my darkest ones. Everything I am today has been shaped by her love and affection. This Mother’s Day I want to give back to her at least a small fraction of the multitudes she has done for my sister and me. Family is a very important value for my mother, so today we are going to spend the entire day together as a family, ending by going out for a special Mother’s Day dinner. (Elyna, Sharan and Eysha in picture)

Megha Sarawgi Agarwal for her mothers Benu Sarawgi and Sarita Agarwal

Women are heroes and moms have such superpowers that would make any caped crusader jealous… I am in the company of two such superheroes – mom and mom in-law. It’s a Herculean task to quote their superpowers but they can heal anything, any indisposition, stress, glumness, trouble, struggle with their selfless love, affection, care and a sunshine smile. With their intuitive sense one can win a jackpot and the way they multitask can give a complex to the most sophisticated computers! My moms are my teacher, doctor, peacemaker, chef, psychologist, confidant, problem solver, shoulder, shopping buddy, partner in crime, friend, story teller, healer, angel, heart and soul.

My moms are in India. As always, I’ve sent them flowers, food they love, a book and most important a visit to the spa, to give them a time off from the infinite number of roles they play in our lives.

Dhanalakshmi Rudraraju for her mother Vaidehi Raju

Being the eldest I started this as a ritual when me and siblings would work together do all the cooking, cleaning and other chores for her so that she enjoys at least a day of rest. I know for the selfless love and care she gave us nothing can match it. But this is the least we can do for her. As a kid I never understood her importance because she was around me all the time, but now that I have kids of my own. I value her more. Her ability to keep me going no matter the situation. She reminded me always to believe in myself even when the world around does not.

I’ve arranged for a cake and a small plant to be delivered at her place. She loves gardening more and does not believe in bouquets.

Hifzana Farheen for her mother Arifa Begum

My mother is my superpower and will always be. She stays strong even through ups and downs and has the ability to handle the problems with all calmness. Whenever I am sad or upset I think about my mom and that gives me strength to go. I love my mom so much. She is a wonderful and cheerful lady, a great cook with endless ideas. Today I will wish her and chat with her. And not just today, I pray for her health and happiness every day.

Anuradha Rao Sharma for her mother Mani Rao

My mother can make me feel at comfort in any distressed situation. Talking to her is like a therapy and it gives me strength to cope up with all difficulties. She is my unpaid therapist who thinks of me 24/7. This is should not be the only day when we should make our mothers feel special. Rather it’s an ongoing process which is the best feeling in the world. Staying away I can’t do much for her nor does she expect anything materialistic from me. The thing that makes her the happier is a call and a video chat with me which I will surely do.

Srivani Billa for her mother Krishna Veni

She can read my mind just by looking into my eyes. She is a beautiful lady with strong mind and a kind heart. I always admire her for her patience and hard work. As I am staying far away from her all I could do is give her a call and talk to her as much as I can.

Bala Narayanan for her mother Visalakshi Muthuraman

Hard work and time consciousness are my mom’s super possessions. I have never seen her wasting time and she always active as a bee. I’m sending her a handmade card.

Roopa Mulakutla Shastry for her mother M. Lalita Krishna

My mother is lady of many talents, particularly music, yet very humble. She is an excellent mother homemaker and a musician. I’m going to call her and sing to her.

Rakshita Senthil Kumar for her mother Yamuna Senthil Kumar

My mother has many super powers, she cooks tasty food for me, finishes her housework very fast, she encourages me when I go for competitions, best of all she can find my lost things (winks). She’s going to get a special surprise gift from me. I will help her with the chores. I will sing her favourite song, give her a big hug and ask my father to take her out for dinner.

Veer Anand for his mother Vandana Anand

My mum is a great friend of mine and we share a lot of secrets together. She is passionate about cooking even though she’s a trained artist. I get a lot yummy food as a result of her private kitchen called Masala Bay which was voted in the top 5 of Hong Kong by SCMP. I admire my mum as she never cooked till she came to HK 15 years ago and has now changed that hobby into a well known business in our district. Today we plan to go out for a Thai meal as a family.

Hope this has made your day as much as it made ours!
