ADesiflava recently had the privilege of attending an exclusive pre-briefing for the event, and let us tell you, this isn’t your regular event—it’s a vibrant cultural spectacle waiting to unfold! Organized by the Indian Consulate General in Hong Kong, this festival aims to not only showcase the vast diversity and richness of Indian heritage but also to provide a ground of celebration and a slice of home to the community among both locals and the significant Indian expats residing in the city. Make sure you save the date: March 21-22, 2026, from 1 PM to 11 PM at the iconic Lan Kwai Fong Amphitheatre. You surely don’t want to miss out on this much-anticipated celebration, for which the preparations are on with full swing, pomp and show!
The event is hosted in collaboration with the LKF group, and lovingly patronised by the very own Allan Zeman, chairman of the group and the man behind turning HK’s neighbourhood of flower stalls and traditional wet markets into a nightlife legend and a premier entertainment destination. Speaking at the press release, Allan expressed, “it gives us great pleasure to bring this event to the audiences again after last year’s tremendous success and I look forward to the festival with great anticipation, especially with the increased array of events, performances and artists we’re bringing to you this year”. He also recounted joyfully how the last event was a massive hit, drawing audiences from Mainland and other regions, with stalls brimming with visitors as they witnessed Indian food, whiskeys, dances, movies with curiosity, fascination,surprise and a pleasant admiration. Allan noted how he was compelled to shake a leg or two at the DJ night, courtesy the electric atmosphere -”Nobody wanted to leave, people were so happy”.
What to expect?
The festival promises to be an immersive experience, capturing the essence of India through a kaleidoscope of events. And, it’s bigger and better this year with added nuances like traditional Baraat procession (Indian tradition of the groom arriving at the wedding), saree try-ons, cooking classes, etc. With a lineup that includes interactive workshops, film screenings, and traditional performances, there’s something for everyone!
Mindful Start with Yoga: Start your morning by embracing tranquility with rejuvenating Yoga Sessions. Designed for all levels, these classes will guide participants through a variety of poses and meditation techniques, creating a sense of calm and wellness amid the bustling festival activities. Participants will not only benefit physically but also mentally, making it a perfect way to set a positive tone for the day ahead.
Henna: One of the festival’s key attractions will be Henna Workshops, where participants can learn the art of “mehndi” or Indian temporary tattoo. You’ll not only unleash your creativity and apply beautiful designs; you’ll embrace a cultural tradition that signifies joy and celebration.
Captivating Cinema: India is known for its glowing and widely acclaimed film industries, and it’ll be a crime if such artistic cinema isn’t part of this celebration. For movie lovers, the festival will feature screenings of popular films with subtitles such as Dangal (cited as one of the finest films of Hindi film industry and rightfully earned its place in hearts of audiences worldwide)and Kantara (Second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time and a major global success) – the films that not only entertain but also reflect the diversity of stories that Indian cinema has to offer. It’ll be an enriching experience, where you’ll get a chance to be explorative and dive deeper into the nuances of Indian culture.
The ‘Baraat’: One of the most visually stunning segments of the festival will be a vibrant procession that mimics traditional Indian wedding arrival of the groom, filled with music and energetic dance. Expect to see joyful performers and dancers, creating an atmosphere of festive exuberance that’ll compel everyone to join in the merriment.
Fashion Extravaganza: For those with a flair for fashion, the Saree Try-Outs provide a unique opportunity to learn the art of draping a saree where you can embrace the elegance of this timeless attire. An intricate symbol of grace and cultural heritage, saree is not just any other garment, it’s representation of the divine power of a woman, and represents countless stories woven into its fabric and embroideries.
A Culinary Journey: Lip-smacking, award-winning, aromatic, flavourful,…. and the list goes on. The festival aims to do justice to this significant part of our culture- by offering everything from the spicy notes of street food to the spectacular classics. And who could forget the buzz around the Indian whiskey? Last year’s festival saw attendees queuing up for a taste that many claimed was worth the wait and almost had onlookers fooled for the whiskey to be free given the impressive crowds!
Dance performances: Dance is a focal point of Indian tapestry, and echoing that sentiment the festival will feature exhilarating performances that include Bollywood, Garba, and various classical dance forms. These performances will not just entertain; they will celebrate the diversity of dance styles and expression of emotions and stories through them – showcased by vibrant costumes and electrifying choreography that harmonize with the festival’s energetic ambiance.
DJ night: Later as the night unfolds, the energy will shift to the electrifying DJ Night, where attendees can let loose to a mix of fusion Bollywood hits and contemporary beats.
