Can you tell us a bit about the background of how the company was founded, the motivation and inspiration, and the gaps you were looking to fill?
“We laugh about it every now and then, but OVO Events was quite literally born in our bedroom.”Our casual brainstorming sessions helped us discover a deeply mutual, personal feeling shared by the three of us as siblings: the feeling that the South Asian community in Hong Kong deserved bigger, more meaningful entertainment experiences closer to home.
Growing up, we had music all around us. We actually come from a musical heritage and a family of legendary Indian classical musicians, so our association with the music industry, Bollywood live performances, and cultural celebrations has always been a massive part of our lives.
We realized there was a real disparity in the Hong Kong market. Audiences here were absolutely hungry for authentic, high-quality South Asian events, but opportunities were so limited. People often had to travel abroad just to see their favorite artists. We wanted to change that. Our very first event came from a simple idea—if we are craving these experiences, surely thousands of others are too. That became our foundation: creating unforgettable cultural moments that make people feel connected to home, nostalgia, and community, right here. At its heart, OVO was founded to bridge cultures and give fans the experiences they genuinely deserve.
Can you walk us through the dynamics of the team – passions, backgrounds, the connecting force, and if Bollywood thrives as loudly within the team as in its work?
“Being siblings means there is a natural, instinctive trust. That helps enormously when managing high-pressure events.” What connects us most is a shared passion for music, arts, and entertainment. Each of us brings completely different strengths to the table. Some of us are more creatively driven, some are operationally focused, and others thrive in networking and execution. That balance makes our teamwork strong.
And yes—we are massive Bollywood fans ourselves! We grew up listening to iconic music, all the way from legendary greats like Rafi Sahab and Kishore Da to modern icons like Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh. We watched films together as a family, always admiring the way these artists emotionally connect with people through storytelling. That genuine love makes the work feel incredibly personal.
But beyond the mainstream, we’re also passionate about celebrating South Asian independent talent, from legends to rising stars.
“We want to build a platform where you can experience both nostalgia and fresh talent under one roof. To us, entertainment is more than just a show—it’s about emotion and belonging.”
How has the reception to the last few events been — especially the Bollywood Night with Salman Zaman? What keeps the team going in these unpredictable times?
“The response to our Bollywood Night with Salman-Zaman was absolutely incredible. It reminded us exactly why we started this journey” Seeing the audience sing along, dance, and genuinely enjoy themselves was definitely a huge milestone for us. The energy in the room was electric, and it proved just how strong the demand is for quality desi entertainment in Hong Kong. We were so humbled by the support, not just from the South Asian community, but from people of all different backgrounds who came together to celebrate the music.
We genuinely believe Hong Kong has a growing appetite for South Asian entertainment. There’s a beautiful diversity in this city, and people are increasingly open to cultural experiences that feel vibrant, immersive, and emotionally engaging. The enthusiasm we’ve witnessed keeps us going and motivates us to keep pushing boundaries.
We received many questions on how the Javed Ali event came about. Any story behind how it was conceptualised?
Bringing Javed Ali to Hong Kong is a moment we’re incredibly proud of.
He is a legend whose voice has touched millions of people around the world, and for many fans, his songs are tied to some of their most emotional memories.
People wanted something soulful, nostalgic, and musically rich performance-. Javed Ali immediately came to our minds because he represents exactly that.
Once the idea was born, a lot of hard work went into making it happen behind the scenes — coordinating internationally, aligning schedules, planning production, and ensuring we could deliver a concert experience worthy of both the artist and the fans.
For us, this isn’t just about hosting a concert. It is about creating a special moment for the community — giving fans in Hong Kong the rare opportunity to experience an artist of his calibre live, in an intimate and memorable setting.
Seeing the excitement around the announcement has already made all the effort worthwhile.
What are some future events we should look out for and the upcoming vision of OVO events? Are there any channels fans can submit their requests via?
We want to bring a mix of legendary artists, contemporary performers, live music experiences, themed nights, and culturally driven events to the city. Audiences can definitely expect a major expansion in the scale and variety of what we offer.
One thing that is deeply important to us is listening to the community. A lot of our inspiration comes directly from the audience and what they want to experience. We absolutely welcome requests and suggestions for future artists or event ideas through our social media platforms and community channels. We want OVO Events to grow with the audience. The long-term vision is simple: to build a trusted entertainment platform that consistently delivers world-class events in Hong Kong and beyond.
